“Acting big”: operational excellence, steered at scale

With its 2030 Industrial and Human Project, “Acting big”, Enedis is committing the whole company to a new ambition. Operational excellence is one of its pillars. To steer and improve it at scale, Enedis has integrated OpenDecide as its system: more than 800 teams and 9,800 members, from the executive committee to first-line managers, supported autonomously in their pursuit of excellence.

Enedis operates France’s public electricity distribution network, a mission-critical service run by around 38,000 people across the country.

Supporting the rapid rise of new uses, continuing to connect renewable energy, steering an electrical system that is ever more heavily used and decentralized… At Enedis, the Great Electrification is already a lived reality on the ground, in major projects as in everyday interventions.

Today that momentum is accelerating. It makes the company’s mission both more vital and more complex. The 2030 Industrial and Human Project sets out to extend, accelerate and amplify the transformations already under way. Because electrification is changing scale, Enedis must change scale too, and act big.

Operational excellence is one of the pillars of that project, the one that turns the ambition into everyday reality across a vast, distributed organization.

The challenge at this scale is not running one improvement program. It is making excellence repeatable and self-sustaining across every level and every métier at once, from the executive committee down to first-line managers in the field: operational bases, specialized intervention agencies (AIS), activity planning cells (CPA), customer relations centers.

“Acting big” means raising operational excellence everywhere at the same time, not team by team, but across the whole company.

How it works

OpenDecide is deployed as a self-driving system. Each team runs its own evidence-based scan, surfaces the root causes holding it back, and runs its own improvement cycles, autonomously, without waiting on a central program. The same standard now spans every core métier: Patrimoine et Infrastructures, Interventions, Opérations, État-Major and Relations Clients, from the Comex to the managers of the first line.

Across the teams already deployed, the effect shows up in the numbers that matter to operations: an average measured efficiency gain of +12%.

A self-driving organization

Deployment is ongoing, cascading from the executive committee to first-line managers across every métier. The goal is an organization that steers itself: where every team, in autonomy, sustains and raises its own excellence.

For a company whose network keeps the country running, acting big rests on thousands of teams pursuing operational excellence, together and on their own.
